Mr. Seth Shepherd

Professor of Systems Engineering and Test

Defense Acquisition University- Huntsville Campus

Mr. Seth Shepherd is a professor in the Systems Engineering and Test (SET) Department at the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) South Region in Huntsville, AL.  He teaches courses in Systems Engineering, Science & Technology Management and Test & Evaluation to members of the Defense Acquisition Workforce.  Mr. Shepherd also engages in consulting efforts with Department of Defense acquisition programs and agencies and the Department of Homeland Security.

Mr. Shepherd has over 35 years experience in DoD materiel acquisition, science & technology development, systems engineering and test & evaluation.  He served in a wide variety of acquisition, engineering, test and staff assignments over his 28-year active duty Air Force career including: Operational Test Advisor to the Iraqi Military Chief of Combat Engineering; Director, Air Force Electronic Warfare Evaluation Simulator; HQ AF Material Command Chief of Space Test Policy; AF Research Laboratory Program Manager for Electro-Optical Sensors Technology; Air Force Information Warfare Center Chief of Electro-Optics/Infrared Capability Analysis; Human Systems Program Office Systems Engineer for Night Vision Systems; Space Systems Physicist/Test Technology Manager for Arnold Engineering Development Complex and Infrared Systems Test Engineer for the 46 Test Wing, Eglin AFB.

 Mr. Shepherd joined the DAU Engineering and Technology faculty in the Capital Northeast Region in 2004 as an active duty Air Force instructor.  He transferred to DAU South Region in 2011 joining the Systems Engineering and Test department.  Mr. Shepherd served as subject matter expert and principal author for the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Acquisition directed study: Developmental Testing (DT) Disconnects in Operational Testing (OT) Outcomes published in 2013.

 Mr. Shepherd holds a BS in Physics from Lamar University and an MS in Physics with a concentration in electro-optics from the University of North Texas. Mr. Shepherd is Level III certified in the functional areas of Program Management, Engineering, Science & Technology Management and Test & Evaluation.  Mr. Shepherd is a Villanova University Certified Black Belt in Lean Six-Sigma and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Qualified Administrator.
