Message From The President
Dear PMI North Alabama Chapter Members,
I hope that everyone is staying healthy and maintaining some sense of routine in this chaotic time. In compliance with regulations and best practices for slowing the spread of COVID-19, PMI-NAC has suspended all in-person events until it safe to resume them. The health and safety of our members is the highest priority right now.
The Annual Excellence Awards has been tentatively rescheduled to May 23rd pending resolution of the quarantine. There is still time to get nominations in for the PM and project of the Year; our keynote speaker will be Mr. James I. Owens, Jr.
Just because we can’t meet in person, does not mean we can’t continue our professional development, networking, and community outreach. I want to pass along to you some new PMI resources that have become available, and to remind you of resources that are always available to our members.
PMI has shared a link to several opportunities to continue your professional development activities (https://www.pmi.org/about/coronavirus-single-source-message/resource-hub), and even get the kids involved (https://pmief.org/about-us/news/free-pmief-resources-for-parents?utm_source=PMInsight%20Free%20Resources%20for%20Parents&utm_medium=Newsletter&utm_campaign=PMInsight%20Free%20Resources%20for%20Parents&utm_content=PMInsight%20Free%20Resources%20for%20Parents) (I apologize for the length, but I want to make sure you can copy and paste if the link doesn’t work.)
Our Local Training Opportunities (https://pmi-nac.org/Local_Training_Opportunities) links are still active. I just participated in NASA’s Virtual Project Management Challenge with guest Scott Adams last week. Previous VPMC events are available to view on demand.
PMI is still offering $2500 to our chapter to reimburse professional development courses taken by members (https://pmief.org/scholarships/scholarship-directory/pmi-north-alabama-chapter-milestone-scholarship).
We continue to host monthly webinars – check out our Events link for details. PMI is encouraging other chapters to follow suit, and we will potentially be able to collaborate and make their webinars available to you, as well. We’ll keep you posted.
Also, I’d like to be able to use our skills and manpower to continue to help the community, while observing social distancing. Opportunities like writing grants, helping brick and mortar businesses develop a plan for expanding their online options, managing non-profit organization COVID response resources, etc. I’m doing some searching online and calling around, but it any of you have any ideas, please get in touch with me.
Most importantly, stay safe and be kind to one another through this challenge. If there is anything I can do for you, please let me know.
