Our History

The PMI - North Alabama Chapter was originally formed in 1990 as the Tennessee Valley Chapter. Since its formation other PMI Chapters were formed in Birmingham, AL; Memphis, TN; Nashville, TN; Chattanooga, TN; and Knoxville, TN. On July 9, 2002, the PMI Chapter was renamed the North Alabama Chapter (PMI-NAC) to better represent the area we serve.

PMI-NAC has grown to well over 400 paid members. We host monthly luncheon meetings featuring speakers offering tips for successful project management and one-day Professional Development Seminars . We also have a strong certification program to help members earn their Program Management Professional (PMP) certification, the largest and most highly regarded national project management certification program based on the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). As recently as December 2005 the PMP was listed by CertCities.com as one of the top 10 hottest certifications for 2006, coming in at a respectable number 4. PMI-NAC certification activities are also offered in coordination with the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

PMI-NAC is incorporated as a 501-(c)(6) organization.
